IPDS Tracer
This tool is used to simulate an IPDS Printer against a host. The Host will see the program as a printer and submit print jobs to it. The program will not print the received data, but capture the data and save it in file that can be analyzed or played back later with the IPDSReplay tool. The program will also display the print on the screen, in the true resolution and with full color correction, and the individual pages of the job can be pulled into your favorite TIFF viewer for further analysis.
This program has been created to assist the pre-sales support effort. Typically a customer will require certainty that his job will print correctly with the vendor's equipment. Instead of bringing a machine un-site, this tool will allow the pre-sales supporter to collect the customer's jobs while simulating the settings of the machine that has the customer's interest. The pre-sales support engineer can immediately show the output on the screen, or he can use the captured file to re-submit to the machine in his lab, and send the result to the customer for verification.
Not only has the resulted in huge cost and time savings for the vendor related to transportation, preparation, installation, and allocation of the machine from the demo pool. It has also meant that the conclusion of the test, and subsequently the decision for the purchase can be made extremely fast. This does not only a huge benefit for the vendor, but also to a large degree for the customer, who does not need to allocate resources for testing, and immediately get confirmation on the capabilities of the specific machine.
