Q:How do I get the IPDS software to detect network printers?

Question: The IPDS software does not detect my network printers, only my local printers. (applies to IPDS Client 2005 and WinIPDS).

Answer:
By default, the IPDS software runs as a Windows Service in Local mode. Network printers are mapped and associated to a specific user login, and since the WinIPDS is supposed to run without a user logged in, it will not be able to detect the Network Printers for a specific login account.
There is, however a workaround for this. You can reconfigure Windows to run the WinIPDS in "Console Mode". This means WinIPDS will only be operational when a user has logged in on the PC, and therefore not recommended if WinIPDS runs on an un-manned PC (e.g. a server that should start automatically after power failures).
The procedure for running WinIPDS in Console mode is explained in the WinIPDS Admin Guide
After you have the software running in console mode, you need to actively update the list of detected drivers like this:
1. Attach to the Admin GUI.
2. Select Printer Drivers on the Configuration menu.
3. Click update. All network printers should now be listed.
