Q:Cannot set IP address on print server with the arp -s command.

Question:
According to the manual it should be possible to set an ip address in the device using the command:

arp -s <i-net_adr> <mac_adr>, but it does not work.

1. I can see the entry in the arp table with the command arp -a, but I get no reply to a ping.

2. The arp program reports a failure when I use the arp -s command.

Answer:

Background information:
The arp -s command does not give the device an ip address. It creates an entry in the PC´s arp
table and associates the entered ip address with the mac address of the device. When the ip address
is pinged afterwards, the device is given the address temporarily. The ip address can now be
saved in the device either via http or telnet.

Solution to the problems mentioned:

Print a status page and check the current ip address on the Intermate device. It must be 0.0.0.0 for the arp -s to have effect.
