Question:
How Do i find a MAC address to associate with a registration or license key for my WinIPDS Pro product?

Note: Each network interface card (NIC) / network adapter has its own MAC address (physical address). If the PC or Server has more than one, and you want to select for yourself which one of them should be selected, use method b, c, or d.

a) Intermate software already installed

If want to order a key for a computer that has the software installed, open the Administration GUI. You will typically find the MAC address in one or two places:

• Status: Overall Status
• Links: Order License or Help: Registration

NOTE: This is the recommended method as it will indicate whether a key can be created for the product or not. Currently the Creo products do not support activation on a VMWare virtual server as the MAC address is not unique. If the product detects a VMWare MAC address, it will not show under Order License.

b) "Ipconfig" information on the computer itself

Open a Command Prompt on the computer for which the License Key is intended. If you don't know how to do so, follow these steps:
1. Press Start in Windows
2. Select "Run"
3. Type cmd
4. Press Enter

Then:

1. Type ipconfig /all
2. The MAC address(es) will be displayed under "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection".

c) DHCP Server lease list

Use your corporate DHCP Server lease list to determine the physical address of each computer which will run the software.

d) "Ping-arp" on a remote computer

Open a Command Prompt on any computer from which you can ping the computer for which the key is intended. If you don't know how to do so, follow the first four steps in method b.

Then:

1. Type in the ping command to target that computer's IP (e.g. c:\ping 172.168.42.5).
2. Type in an ARP request (c:\arp -a).
3. The system will display a list showing the IP address and physical address of the computer you just pinged.
