Q: How to import an older driver template version

Question:
I have received a template which I have imported and created a driver from. The IPDS Service seems to start fine and have status "awaiting connection", but the host seems to immediately disconnect.

Answer:
It is most likely that your installed product has a newer database level than the product from which the template you have imported was exported from. You should check your products "overall status" page, or the release note, to verify the database level of the installed software version.

Usually a received template will have the database level as part of the file name, but it could have been renamed. Check if you have entries in the Error Log of your installed product (Web GUI -> Status -> Overall status -> Error Log).
If you see the message "Received driver template file with invalid format!" your received template was exported from another version. If you try to print using a driver created from an invalid template version, you will most likely see the message "#1:Not properly configured. No valid input tray mappings available". This is because the template has been corrupted at import and the tray definitions, as well as all other settings, has been reset.

How to resolve:

  1. Ask the sender of the template about which software/version it was exported from. (e.g. "WinIPDS-Pro-G59-10-005", which has template version v165)
  2. Downgrade your software to that version. (run the install file and select "Repair/Upgrade" when prompted by the install shield wizard)
  3. Login to the product an import the template your have received.
  4. Upgrade your software to the current version (e.g. "WinIPDS-Pro-Lite-G59-20-002", which has template version v167). Again select the "Repair/Upgrade" in the install shield wizard. The template has now, as part of the software upgrade process, been upgraded from the template version v165 to v167, and you can create your driver based on that. (Remember to delete any drivers you may have created based on the wrong version of template).

You can now export the template if you need to import into other installations of the new software.
