See the Intermate web-site and product sheets for further details. ********************************************************************** 2. Some tips about running the Intermate IPDS Client / Getting Started ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - The install shield allows you to put a short-cut on your desk-top. - You must configure the IPDS Client using the IPDS > Setup menu. The following items must be configured in the order shown. 1. General tab. Select a printer. The program communicates with the printer through the installed Windows printer driver. Thus, the program presents you with the complete list of installed printers on your PC. It is important that the printer and driver you select are adequate for the job. 2. General tab. Select Network address to listen. The system will create a list of network IPs on your PC if you have more than one network adapter. You must use this address in the Host print queue. 3. General tab: Select Network port to listen. You are offered a choice of four ports. The port number you select must also be used in the IPDS printer definition on the IBM host. See the on-line help for additional information on ports. 4. IPDS Tray Mappings tab. There must be at least one mapping suitable for the selected printer. See the on-line help for additional information about this. 5. All other configurations are optional depending on your requirements. - "IPDS_Client.ini" is a configuration file. This file is used to get program settings when starting the program, and to save the last used settings on exit. You can use this file to get a quick overview of current settings. Very advanced users may want to use a text editor to create their own ini files. The menu IPDS > Change Ini files allows you to manually select such an alternative ini-file. The menu IPDS > Create Short Cut can be used to create a desk-top shortcut which will start the program using an alternative Ini-file. - The file IPDS_Client.ini.log is an error log which can help you to troubleshoot. - TRIAL VERSION vs. LICENSED VERSION Without a license key, the program runs in demo mode. The program is fully functional, however a watermark is printed across each printed page or label. For information on ordering a license key, visit the product portal: www.intermate.com/ipdsclient. ********************************************************************** 3. About this release --------------------- P18-5021 (V2R5.7)2005-01-12 - General improvement of media size handling. This version uses media size information given by the Windows GDI printer driver. Among other things, this improves support of label printing. - User defined paper sizes (configured on the Papersizes tab) could not actually be used. This is corrected. When "Use Manual Settings" (IPDS Tray Mappings tab) is enabled, you can now select user-defined sizes in both IPDS Tray Mappings and Driver Override. - In this version, auto-detection of media size and trays has been improved. Therefore, it is seldom necessary to use "Driver Override". - Online help for Datamax label printers. Some models need definitions of DPI Scaling to make the image fit the label.(Margins tab: dpi Scaling box and definition fields). ********************************************************************** 4. Known limitations -------------------- - Sometimes the directory and program shortcut in the Windows Startup menu are not automatically created. In this case run the setup again, or create the shortcut manually. - Only severe errors in the Windows print system cause an exception to be reported to the Host. This is because only the "Early" page counter update setting has been implemented, - Barcode support is limited to members of the BCD1 set. ********************************************************************** 5.
